MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR OF KYOTO PREFECTURE

The people of this prefecture are honoured to welcome you to Kyoto for the 24th ICOLD Congress & 80th Annual Meeting.

Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, was the centre of politics and culture for over a thousand years. Even today Kyoto is proudly the culture heart of Japan and considered to be the true home of all Japanese. The Kyoto region is famous worldwide for her cultural assets, which include UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites and a wealth of traditional arts and crafts. Those who visit Kyoto are overwhelmed with her charm; and we hope you will be too.

You will also enjoy the bustle of modern progressive Japan here in Kyoto. The surrounding region constitutes the second largest economic bloc after the Tokyo metropolitan area.
This means you have the opportunity to enjoy cutting-edge architecture and urban design as well as excellent shopping and round-the-clock entertainment when away from the congress site. Furthermore, I recommend Kyoto’s fine dining, not just at leading Japanese restaurants but authentic international cuisine too.

Thus I believe Kyoto is a most attractive place for your 24th ICOLD Congress & 80th Annual Meeting. I look forward to welcoming you.
